The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain

Collins Cover Announcement

YOUTH CLASSICS

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

One of the year's best issues was the set of four stamps honoring Youth Literary Classics. They represent some of the best-loved and most popular stories for young readers. The books represented are: Little House on the Prairie; Rebecca of  Sunnybrook Farm; Little Women; and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

In regard to Huck Finn, Mark Twain provided a vivid record of 19th Century America. Twain, whose real name was Samuel Clemens, based this adventure story in part on his own experiences along the Mississippi River. My hand-painted cachet captures the spirit of the times and the exuberance of youth as Huckleberry Finn and his friend Tom Sawyer raft their way down the Mighty Mississippi. It is, indeed, a fitting COLLINS tribute to the celebration of youth that these stamps generate and I am proud to offer it for your collection. Unlike some of the obscure subject matter on U.S. stamps, these four classics will always be a popular subject to collect on First Day Covers and I can tell you now that my hand-painted cachets will do justice to these long loved classics. The other three will be offered soon, but it all starts with this one. Join Huck and Tom on their raft as they float down the wide Mississippi. Americana at its finest when our nation was still young at heart. Huckleberry Finn. Item #F2202. $10.75.
