Red Fox - "Holiday Visitor"

Once again, it is time for my eagerly awaited Christmas Wildlife cover. This year, the family farm is pict red down in the valley. It is dawn and the big, old farmhouse looks inviting as smoke curls up from a chimney. No doubt those in the kitchen are already starting to cook for the festive day ahead. A large barn stands adjacent to the house and an open barn door indicates that chores are already being done and animals cared for so that all will be completed before the guests start to arrive.

Unknown to those so busy in and around the family homestead, one holiday visitor has already arrived. A beautiful red fox with a rich auburn coat sits alertly on a high slope. A bushy white-tipped tail is wrapped around his body. In the background, the farm with its surrounding fields and woodlots presents a serene setting. As activity picks up below, the fox will quickly move on to a less populated area. Many family members and guests will enjoy the warm hospitality on this Christmas Day but the first "holiday visitor" will have been long gone.
