CIRCUS - TRAPEZE ACROBATS
"He flies through the air with the greatest of ease,
The daring young man on the flying trapeze.
His actions are graceful, the action does please. The man on the flying trapeze."
The above song lines are remembered from my childhood. Along with the clowns and wild animals no circus would be complete without the aerial antics and precisely timed maneuvers of those fearless daredevils who perform with the swinging trapeze bars high above the three rings at the very apex of the big-top tent. My hand-painted cachet captures one muscular trapeze artist grasping another after a flight through mid-air. Confidence and concentration are apparent on his face as he securely clasps and tightens his grip on the companion who has entrusted his well-being to the skill of his fellow performer.
The large stamp has the Washington, D.C. bullseye First Day postmark. Complementing the COLLINS trapeze cachet is the multi-colored hand-painted lettering that helps to make my four cover circus set so cheerful and up-lifting. This trapeze FDC joins the "Elephant" and "Clown" items which have already been offered. In the near future I'll be telling you about my final cover in the set which features a cage full of "big cats" (lions, tigers, leopards) and a couple of surprise companions that make the cachet a real eve-catcher.
When I was really young my grandmother took me by train to New York City to see the circus. It's one of my earliest memories. I also recall watching the "Sealtest Big-Top" on Saturdays -remember that one? For now, I offer my cover where high above the ground and performing without a net are those daring young men on the flying trapeze. Item #L2103. $10.75
