Collins Cover Announcement

AIDS AWARENESS

The U.S. Postal Service has a tradition of raising public awareness for a variety of social and health issues. Previous examples of community related stamps would be such issues as health research, public hospitals, the fight against polio, the crusade against cancer, and many others. In regard to the AIDS stamp, at the issue ceremony, Postmaster General Runyon said that the stamp would "help raise public awareness and to encourage the action that is so necessary for stopping AIDS". The Center for Disease Control stressed that while awareness is important, resources and education are the keys to the prevention of this incurable disease.

It took me quite awhile to decide on the subject matter for my hand-painted cachet. The result, I think, really turned out very appropriate. In it I picture ten ordinary Americans. Different ages. Both sexes. Many walks of life. Looking at this group of typical Americans I ask you a question by stating a fact. When you receive this cover I believe that as you search for an answer to the implied question, your awareness of this deadly disease will be heightened.

I think this COLLINS Cover will be considered the best of any produced by various cachetmakers. It delivers the message. Item #K2201. $10.75.
