If you like something new and different in your covers to add visual variety, you'll really be intrigued by the way I handled the hand-painted lettering and the portrait background area in this COLLINS First Day Cover. Since Bill Haley and his Comets recorded the 1955 classic "Rock Around the Clock" which, in my opinion was one of the definitive events in the birth of Rock and Roll (it sold twenty-two million copies), I wanted to make the COLLINS Cover truly distinctive and unique from all others being produced. And so, to set it apart I decided on hand-painted lettering that would jump out at you and give a youthful, up-beat effect. The colors are presented in a mottled, dappled, marbled, almost paisley-type pattern that is unlike anything I've done before. Against this multi-toned background, I've presented a portrait of Bill Haley.

Haley and his band, known as the Comets, began by playing Country and Western music. When they added and blended Rhythm and Blues, a whole new sound was created. As part of the cachet, I've included the band instruments of sax, drum, and bass displayed against a comet-like array of streaking stars.

Above the instruments is the hand-painted name "Bill Haley" in the unusual and attractive watercolored technique as described above. Haley now joins previously offered Richie Valens and Dinah Washington as my seven-cover "Rock 'n Roll" set continues to build. (Richie and Dinah are still available at this time.)

This cover (and set) has achieved my personal goal of giving you a collectible that is set apart and above those normally found in the hobby.
