BROADWAY MUSICALS

Porgy and Bess

I am very excited about this first cover being offered in my set of four Broadway musicals. this is going—co be a yreat set for COLLINS collectors, and I know the FDC hobby will always consider them something special. Still to come in the near future are "Oklahoma", "Show Boat", and "My Fair Lady". Each and every one a Broadway classic.

You will have to see the "Porgy and Bess" cachet for yourself to believe the delicate hand painting required to achieve the final results. The musical depicts the lives of a family during the Great Depression. In my cachet, the brick buildings of "Catfish Row" are shown in fine detail. The colors are somber representing the tone of the times. But, the bright colors of the clothes worn by family members and neighbors present a stark contrast to the gloomy surroundings. Even the apparel on a lofty clothesline brings a sharp intrusion of color into this creative cachet. Altogether, seventeen different people appear in this COLLINS cachet, and it contains some of the smallest detail work I've ever offered. It really captures the Depression-era mood, but it does so in a way that I can best present the very finest attributes of watercolor artwork. And, "Porgy and Bess" sets the standard for the three other fine Broadway musical covers that will be coming soon.

This new stamp has First Day of Issue postmark from New York, New York. An intriguing cover that is different from any that I've ever offered and contains some of the smallest, painted detail in cachet art. "Porgy and Bess". Item #X2102. $10.75.
