American Musical

My Fair Lady

Collins Cover Announcement

BROADWAY MUSICALS

My Fair Lady

This is the final  covcr for my Boadway Musicals issued on July 14th. The 'hand-painted cachet captures the central theme of the story as a young flower seller is discovered by a writer and soon is transformed into higher social circles becoming "My Fair Lady". In its debut on Broadway in 1956 Julie Andrews (nineteen years old at the time) starred as Eliza Doolittle and Rex Harrison was cast as Henry Higgins.

The use of bright colors and the profusion of flowers make this cover an interesting one. It joins my previously offered FDCs in this set of "Oklahoma!", "Porgy and Bess", and "Showboat". Together they combine to set forth in a philatelic format a commemoration and celebration of four of the most famous and successful musical collaborations in American theater.

The "My Fair Lady" stamp, has a First Day postmark from New York City as do the others in the set. They were issued at a ceremony in New York's Times Square to mark the 100th Anniversary of Broadway. They are also part of the on-going

"Legends of American Music" series which is encompassing various types of music from Popular to Jazz to Rock 'n Roll to Blues to Country to Broadway. Music is a wonderful and beloved topical subject for many, so having these covers in your collection will provide not only enjoyable viewing but solid holdings as well.

Join Eliza and Henry as the fragrance of flowers fills the air and Miss Doolittle starts her transformation to become "My Fair Lady". Item #X2104. $10.75.
