Moon Landing

25th Anniversary

Collins Cover Announcement

MOON LANDING

29-Cent Stamp

First I must tell you that this cachet is entirely different from the one I did for the Express Mail Stamp issued the same day. And the beautiful pictorial First Day postmark is also different. It really came out great! Also I must caution you that the collector interest and demand was overwhelming for the Express Mail Moon Cover and it sold out with some disappointed collectors missing it entirely. I expect this cover to also go very quickly and it will be a great one to own.

The "entire" cachet spans the whole envelope and is a dramatic one. To the left, the rocket taking the first man to the moon takes off in a fiery blast of flame and smoke. Also shown in this portion is the moon in the heavens above and a radar tracking dish. In the center of the envelope, I show Neil Armstrong as he walks on the surface of the moon. Also, a close-up of the historic first footprint of man. Who can forget his words, "One small step for man -- one giant leap for mankind." To the right side of the cover I show "splashdown" as the returning astronauts' capsule parachutes into the ocean. A recovery ship cruises nearby. Also in this portion is a rendition of the plaque left behind on the moon as a perpetual reminder of this great achievement.

As you can imagine from reading the above, the visual impact of this COLLINS hand-painted cachet is outstanding. To complement the artwork, a beautiful pictorial First Day cancel adds a wonderful philatelic significance. Pictured are individual portraits of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Also, a great rendition of the LEM as it touches down on the moon's surface. The postmark is from Houston, Texas -- home of Mission Control. It is clear and crisp and a real beauty.

The opportunity to acquire this cover is now. It is a certainty that this COLLINS FDC will be a quick sell-out. From my description above you can surmise that this effort on my part could very well be the best cover produced for this popular stamp and topic. The 25th Anniversary of the First Moon Landing. Item #E2301. $13.00.

Lot 23 E2301 — First Moon Landing — 25th Anniversary — 7/20/94

This space cover is one of the finest items I've ever produced, and every time I look at it, I just can't believe how it all came together for the perfect first day cover. For Collins collectors, it doesn't get much better than this! The collage hand painted cachet is literally out of this world. It shows Neil Armstrong walking on the lunar surface. Dramatically, there is a close-up of the man's first footprint there. The fiery take-off rocket launch at Kennedy Space Center is shown. Included in this incredible cachet are the full moon in a night sky, a tracking antenna, and a rendition of the plaque left on the moon. My cachet also shows the return capsule splashdown and a U.S. Navy recovery ship. To complete the perfect cover, I obtained a first day pictorial cancel that shows a portrait of each of the three astronauts (Neil Armstrong, BU77 Aldrin, and Michael Collins) plus a super graphic of the "lem" landing craft touching down and the orbiting Apollo spaceship.
