Washington and Jackson

Army Generals & Presidents

Collins Cover Announcement

FIVE DOLLAR HIGH VALUE

George Washington and Andrew Jackson

During the 1800's when our nation's stamps were created and printed by private printers, many "essays" or proposed design formats were worked up but most were never used. This $5.00 stamp is based on a finely engraved stamp design featuring the portraits of Presidents George WashingtOn and Andrew Jackson. This design was created for the 1869 stamp issues, but it was among those not chosen at that time.

This has, after more than a century, worked to the advantage of current collectors because this fantastic engraved design has been used for this new high-value stamp.

My hand-painted cachet is one that I know you will agree meets the expectations of this special philatelic occasion. It is an

"entire" cachet using the whole face of the envelope, and I've used a "split" technique--half for Washington and half for Jackson. Each is portrayed in an action military context and I think that my renditions of "General Washington" and "Old Hickory" are the finest you'll ever see on cachet art. A truly beautiful and historic First Day Cover.

You can consider it a certainty (that's how positive I am) that this cover will be an almost instant sell-out. After the last one is gone from me, they only will be available on the open market. You can be sure their value will increase. It is a fact that in the hobby all high value covers tend to increase in worth and this is especially true of five dollar denominations I forecasted exactly the same thing for my $5 Bret Harte and it zoomed up and stayed there. I don't wish to over-state this factor, but it is a consideration.

From a "cover appreciation" aspect this is one you'll never get tired of looking at. A great hand-painted COLLINS cachet featuring George Washington and Andrew Jackson. And, the superb $5 stamp based on the 1800's finely engraved design.

This one will be in contention for "Cover of the Year". Don't miss it. Item #12301.  $19.75.

IMPORTANT! I expect this to be an immediate sell out, so if you desire any extras at $19.75 each, do not delay. Use blue sheet. Thanks.

Lot 24 12301 — Washington and Jackson — Five Dollar "Diamond" Stamp — 8/19/94

A diamond-shaped high-value five-dollar stamp depicting Generals Washington and Jackson makes this a must-own Collins. A "wrap-around" split hand painted cachet features General George Washington on one side and General Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson on the other side.

They are both mounted and leading their respective troops in battle. It sold out immediately and is one of the finest first day covers I've ever produced. A beauty!
