SUMMER FLOWERS - LILY

The daylily is the flower with which I am most familiar. My dad was a self-employed excavator working with a bulldozer, backhoe, and dump truck who, upon retirement, started raising daylilies. It is a modest endeavor, but a stroll through his lily gardens on a summer day results in a visual feast of a continuous floral rainbow. Colors range from bright reds and yellows to soft pastels like peach and lavendar to dark burgundy and burnt orange. Often, the centers will be a contrasting color from the petals. They make a nice border flower as they grow without much care, and each year the expanding roots can be split to produce additional plants.

My hand-painted cachet is done in a split fashion. The stamp is positioned in the center of the envelope at the top edge. The First Day postmark is at the bottom of the stamp. Flanking the stamp and cancel on each side is a two-part hand-painted cachet. Blooming daylilies in bright colors faithfully taken from the Senior Collins gardens demonstrate how lovely and dynamic this flower variety can be. A thin cachet band runs across the bottom of the cover attaching the two main portions giving this COLLINS a nice feeling of continuity.

A First Day Cover that, for obvious reasons, I'm happy to offer. Lily. Item #V2201. $10.75.
