JAZZ MUSICIANS

ERROLL GARNER AND JOHN WILLIAN COLTRANE

Erroll Garner could listen to a piece of music once and then perform it to perfection. He began playing at the age of three. He wrote such hits as "Solitaire", "Dreamy", and "Nightwind" but by far his best known composition was "Misty". This world-famous pianist actually composed over 200 works without ever learning to read or annotate music.

John William Coltrane was a tenor saxophonist of great intensity and won the "Jazzman of the Year" Award in 1965. He first gained fame as a romantic interpreter of ballads. This work gave way to his exploring complex harmonics and unprecedented improvisatory extensions. He is still regarded by many fans today as a musical messiah. His best compositions include "A Love Supreme", "Giant Steps", "Naima", "Moment's Notice", and "Equinox".
