FALL FLOWERS
ASTER AND CHRYSANTHEMUM
Asters are found throughout North America but reach their highest potential in the northeastern United States and Canada where 65 species are found. Most are perennials producing large clusters of flowering heads. In my hand-painted cachet, clumps of multicolored asters provide the background for a garden scene. A contented pussycat peacefully watches a nearby birdbath as our feathered friends come and go.
Chrysanthemums, also known simply as mums, originally came from China, India, Japan and Korea. They are the floral emblem of the Japanese Imperial Family. Their showy blossoms make them a popular favorite and they are widely grown on a commercial basis. Chrysanthemums are produced in various shades of bronze, brown, purple, red, pink, yellow and white. In my cachet, I make them a main focal point with three large and different colored blooms positioned at the left side of the envelope. This is balanced by the chrysanthemum stamp affixed in the upper right corner. In between, the garden scene with songbirds and cat is presented in front of a bed of asters.
This is the last of the three covers in my Fall Flowers Series. Still available are E2501 (Dahlia) at $11.75 and E2503 (Hydrangea and Rudbeckia) at $12.00. The two stamps are tied to the cover by a First Day postmark from Encintas, California. Aster and Chrysanthemum. #E2502. $12.00.
