VOLLEYBALL

In the background a server has hit the volleyball and it has cleared the net which stretches across the foreground of this hand-painted cachet. A hand of an opponent has reached up and blocked the ball and he is about to propel it back to the server's side of the court. But...another reaching hand has anticipated the return and strains upward to block or spike the returning ball. It is all part of the fast and physical sport of volleyball and I've presented it in the dynamic and close-up perspective of the previous four covers in this set.

By now, many of you will have seen one or more of the COLLINS Covers in this "Recreational Sports" series. I hope you will agree that the resulting cachets achieve something unique and different in FDC art. In this case, experimenting with different ideas for the golf stamp ended up spawning the close-up concept for the entire series of five.
