Ferryboat 1900s

Collins Cover Announcement

FERRYBOAT

Across the scenic Hudson River churns an early ferryboat in this hand-painted COLLINS cachet. Passengers line the upper and lower decks. Steam billows from its single massive stack. Early autos can be seen parked in their rows for the crossing. Old Glory waves in the strong breeze. It is the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry and this stalwart, sturdy, and brightly colored vessel sports the name of its home county - Orange.

The picturesque voyage is enhanced by the setting. Soft, green hills line the horizon and are a pleasant backdrop to the waterfront village of Newburgh, New York. Framing the blue/green river is a maritime border of hemp rope, a gull perched atop weathered pilings, and a wooden ship's wheel. It is a colorful and well executed "entire" cachet that I am proud to offer.

Even today, the legacy of colorful ferryboats continues as the bright green and yellow commuter crafts of the Staten Island Line sail back and forth between that borough and Manhattan. This cover just takes you up-river a little and conveys you back to an earlier time in American transportation. You can almost hear the ship's whistle as the "Orange" once again makes the crossing. Ferryboat. Item #J2401. $10.75.
