PEACH AND PEAR

An old-time harvest finds a young mother and her daughter out in the peach orchard. They are picking fruit from the heavily laden trees and putting them in slatted, wooden half-bushel baskets. The baskets are the type we're all familiar with and, with the open spaces between slats, you can see those peaches in the baskets as well as those heaped on top. You will enjoy the details in this hand-painted cachet -- the ladder leaning against a nearby peach tree, the yet-to-be picked fruit on the limbs, the colorful period dress of mother and daughter, and the red blush on each golden peach. You will also appreciate the warm appeal of mother and daughter working together. Some things never change.

During the design process, I decided that as nice as the above cachet idea came to life, there was still room to enhance this FDC. So, under a large, inviting pear tree branch I placed a table on which sits the fruits of the harvest. A homemade peach pie with golden brown crust and a slice out exposing the fruit filling. A glass jar of freshly canned pear wedges. And a larger glass mason jar of peach slices. This cachet is absolutely one of my finest for the year.

The two stamps are arranged vertically in the center of the envelope with one First Day postmark tying both of them to the cover. To the left of the stamps is the mother/daughter peach harvest and to the right of the stamps is the tabletop that honestly looks so real and delicious. This is certainly a COLLINS Cover that you'll want to "pick" up and "harvest" for your collection. It has a peach of a hand-painted cachet and a pear of stamps you won't want to miss! Item #T2401. $11.25.
