Cal Farley - Leader in Residential Childcare Services

Collins Cover Announcement

CAL FARLEY

Great American Series "The Man Who Loved Kids"

In 1939 a Texas rancher donated 150 acres so that Cal Farley could build his dream--a boys' ranch for neglected and povertystricken street boys. In 1992 girls were first included to make the ranch co-ed and now it has grown into a modern community of 441 needy youngsters. Since it began over half a century ago, the ranch has provided homes, educations, and opportunities for success to more than four thousand boys and girls.

My hand-painted cachet shows four of "Farley's boys" on the open range of the Texas ranch. In the foreground, one mounts a patient horse. Nearby, an older boy whittles while a young companion chows down with some campfire grub. A fourth is busy with the supplies in the chuck wagon. I tried to make my cachet as Mr. Farley would have wanted with a ranch scene featuring the youngsters that benefitted from the lifestyle he created. The stamp has the First Day postmark from Amarillo, Texas.

Cal and his wife Mimi were affectionately known as "Mom and Pop" Farley. The pair lived to see some 2500 boys grow into responsible men. Many of them today enjoy fine families, homes, and careers all reinforced by the fundamental values learned at the Cal Farley Boys' Ranch. A COLLINS cachet that "Mom and Pop" would have liked. Item #A2601. $11.75.
