American Songwriters

Dorothy Fields

Dorothy wrote hundreds of songs for the Broadway stage and for motion pictures. She often collaborated with composers whose names became better known than hers such as Jerome Kern, Sigmund Romberg, Morton Gould, and Oscar Levant.

Among her big hits are "I Can't Give you Anything But Love, Baby;" "On the Sunny Side of the Street;" "The Way You Look Tonight;" and, "I'm in the Mood for Love. " My handpainted cachet features a caricature of her plus a theme based on another of her big hits - "Hey, Big Spender. "

Her brother was Herbert Fields and together they wrote the Broadway Show tunes 'Redhead" and "Annie Get Your Gun. "

This completes my American Songwriters mini-set. Previously offered and still available at $11.75 each are P2601 - Harold Arlen with "We're Off to See the Wizard" cachet; P2602 - Johnny Mercer with "I'm an Old Cowhand" cachet; and P2604 - Hoagy Carmichael with "Georgia on My Mind" cachet. Now I finish up with "Hey, Big Spender" by the talented Dorothy Fields. Item #P2603. $11.75
