F. SCOTT FITZGERALD
Fitgerald's best remembered and most accomplished novel is "The Great Gatsby" published in 1925. This work is the subject of my handpainted cachet. It shows the wealthy Gatsby at his lavish estate. Featured prominently is his gold colored sports car as it was his prized possession. He had a strange affinity for the color gold. Also shown is the beckoning light from across the water from the home of the woman he desparately loved from afar but never personally met. In my well executed cachet, I've tried to capture a slice of this unusual but compelling story.
The stamp denomination is 23 cents, so I used two of them to meet the postal requirement. Their burnt orange color adds a very nice contrast to my cachet and the result is excellent. I think it will be judged "Best of Issue" by any cachetmaker.
Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald was born in 1896 in St. Paul, Minnesota and it is here that the stamps were issued. Other novels include "This Side of Paradise" (his first), "The Beautiful and the Damned", "Tender is the Night" and "The Last Tycoon". Enjoy the intrigue of the complex Gatsby, the mysterious waters with distant light, and the prized gold sports car all interacting in a setting of extravaganza. "The Great Gatsby" written by the great F. Scott Fitzgerald. Item #Q2601 - $11.75.
