Lot 24 V2501 — Lunar New Year — The Year of the Rat (2-8-96)

This cover sold out very quickly and may go higher than my estimate. It is the first time it appears in one of my sales. An ornate junk is moored to a wharf and is attracting the attention of would-be stowaways. A detailed close-up of a rat is at lower right. It is alertly sitting on a dock piling, and please note the detail in the coiled rope and rodent itself. One of the hallmarks of Collins cachets is the meticulous details they contain. A companion rat is attempting to board the vessel by crawling up one of the rope mooring lines.
