Fulbright Scholarships

50th Anniversary

Collins Cover Announcement

FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS

A pensive orangutang will capture your heart as it sits in front of rain forest foliage. A NASA astronaut floats in space as he "walks" and works in the new frontier. A mini research submarine prowls the oceans' depths as its spotlight and camera explore the sea-bed. It's a rare stamp indeed that permits three such diverse, but popular, topics to be included on one cachet. This is such a stamp.

This scholarship program was established by Congress in 1946 by Senator J. William Fulbright. They were created to increase mutual understanding between the United States and countries worldwide. The exchange student program is administered with cooperation from 130 countries around the world. More than 200,000 people from many nations and academic disciplines have participated in the Fulbright program.

In recognitioin of the global significance of this issue, I decided I would show practical areas of research that have universal consequences for the entire planet. The result was a three-scene cachet on the earth's surface, above it, and below it. This cover turned out far better than I could have hoped. The individually hand-painted cachet could become one of your personal favorites and I am very anxious for you to see first-hand the beautiful watercolors. This one is a "winner". Challenging the mysteries of space, the rain forest, and the oceans. Fulbright Scholars. Item #X2501. $11.75.

Autumn 2019 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 27 X2501 — Fulbright Scholarships — 2/28/96

The Fulbright program was created to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries around the world. Over one hundred, thirty countries participate in this student exchange program. I decided to show three areas of research that benefit the whole planet. On the left, an orangutan symbolizes our efforts to preserve and study the remaining rain forests. In the center, a miniature research submarine explores the ocean depths to discover new food sources and find unknown areas of important minerals. At the right, an astronaut represents mankind's first beginnings in the vast frontier of space. Please refer again to the illustration of this hand painted cachet and enjoy how the artistic expression presents these three areas in such a pleasing composite manner. The first time in my mail sales — watch for the collector interest and value to rise for this compelling cover.
