The Phanton Of The Opera

Lon Chane

This exciting Collins cachet is my fourth "Monster" First Day Cover offered to date. The hand painting with colorful background curtain, vivid costumes, and dramatic theatrical masks make this cover a "must' to own. It's always a pleasant experience when one of my cachets exceeds my own high expectations, and this one is in that category.

Lon Chaney, Sr. began his -film career in 1912 as an extra. He had an amazing ability to assume almost any identity through the use of makeup and physical contortions. This appearance-altering ability was especially important during the silent film era, and it earned for him the title "Man of a Thousand Faces."

In 1923 Chaney was picked for the title role of Quasimodo in "The Hunchback of Notre Darne." It was a giant success. Then, in 1925 he made the classic film that was to be his towering achievement - "The Phantom of the Opera" A bold and colorful hand-painted cover that will be one of the best in your collection. The Collins Phantom. Item #B2.601. $11.75
