Christmas Holly - 1997
A very seasonal hand-painted cachet enables this Coffins first Day Cover to bring the holiday spirit to life. The chee -ur red andg reen colors of hotly make, it a plant that is often used as a decorative focalp oint for Christmas settings.
Winter song bir s perch on holly boughs as they wait in anticipation while two children trim nearby branches with edible decorations. Strings of popcorn and cranberries are entwined between the green leaves and red holly berries. The kids, in colorful scarves and winter caps, are busy tying wild birdseed clusters to the branches which soon will provide a Christmas feast for their gathering feathered friends.
Tihe new stamp has a first Day postmark from New York, New York. The simple design of the stamp makes it a perfect addition to this wonderful cover. To provide a finishing touch, I added a poem in which holly is described as "bold and jolly" and the
cachet was created with that in mind: As with all of my hand-painted first Day Covers, this one must be seen to be appreciated. It is lovely. I am glad that you will be able to "pluck this holly leaf and berry for the day when you make, merry" in the form of my warm-hearted Christmas holly scene. Item #G2801. $ 11.75.
