George "Papa Bear" Halas
1920 a man in Chicago founded a professional football team. 1-lis name was George Stanley "Papa Bear" 1-Ialas and his team was the Chicago Bears. 1-Je was the owner and coach and from 1920 to 1929 even a player. The Bears quickly became a dominant force in the new professional football league. This league, in 1922, became the NFL.
Halas signed college star Red Grange ("The Galloping Ghost") to a contract in 1925 and in 1926 toured the country with his Bears playing 16 games before very large crowds. By so doing, he helped make professional football a national sport During his head coaching years which ended in 1967, he won eight divisional titles and five NFL championships.
In 1963 the "Papa Bear" was inducted into the Pro Football Nall of Fame as a Charter Member. A legendary long-time coach with his beloved Chicago Bears George S. Halas. Item #S2702. $11.75.
