Pons made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1 931 as the heroine of "Lucia di Lammermoor." She made an impressive and unforgettable impression with her flute-like coloratura voice. In fact, Lily's unique singing style captivated listeners not only from the stage but also in recordings, on the radio and, eventually, television.

My stunning cachet depicts her in the title role of "Lakme'." This opera is set in India, and the background setting is just perfect for this cachet. Miss Pons is dressed in an exotic costume and created a sensation by becoming the first opera star to appear on stage with navel showing - a daring innovation at the time.
