Women in the Military

This new stamp was issued on the day of the dedicatioin ceremony for the "Women in Military Service for America" Memorial located at the gateway to Arlington National Cemetery. The stamp features portraits of women in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

My hand-painted cachet is a nice one featuring women in the military from the World War II era. A Navy maintenance crew works on the engine and cockpit of a fighter plane while a column of women soldiers with field backpacks file by. In the foreground, an officer in dress uniform salutes.
