Classical Conductors
Arthur Fiedler - Conductor
Collins Cover Announcement
Classical Conductors
Arthur Fiedler
You are probably familiar with the name of this famous musician because Arthur Fiedler's boundless energy and enthusiasm helped build his reputation until he became the most recognized American conductor in history. His masterful handling of light classic and popular music endeared him to an ever larger audience. He was born in Boston, and his home town became the site of his long and successful career.
In 1979, Fiedler celebrated half a century as leader of the Boston Pops Orchestra. After attending the Academy of Music in Berlin from 1911 to 1915, he returned to the States and became a violist with the Boston Symphony. In 1925 he organized the Boston Sinfonietta, a chamber orchestra, and began his famous free esplanade concerts held on the shore of Boston's Charles River.
My hand-painted cachet shows the park-like esplanade area where the concerts were conducted. It is a beautiful setting with the Charles River and Boston in the background. Also an important part of my cachet is a portrait of Arthur in the act of conducting. As the beloved leader of the Boston Pops, he brought classical music into the homes of millions through recordings, radio, and television. The incomparable Arthur Fiedler. Item #X2702. $11.75.
