Classical Conductors

Eugene Ormandy - Conductor

Collins Cover Announcement

Classical Conductors

Eugene Ormandy

Ormandy was born in Hungary in 1899 and entered the Budapest Royal Academy as a violin student at age five. My hand-painted cachet features the young Eugene with his violin against a background of Old Budapest. It is very effective. The second part of my cachet depicts the accomplished Ofinandy in the twilight of his career as he conducts the Philadelphia Symphony in 1973 - his 35th and final year as Musical Director of that orchestra.

After completing his studies in Hungary and gaining some experience, Ormandy moved to New York in 1921 and became an American citizen in 1927. From 1930 to 1935, he conducted the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. In 1936, 1937, and 1938, he enjoyed a tenure as "Joint Conductor" with Leopold Stokowski of the Philadelphia Symphony. When Leopold departed, Eugene began his thirty-five year reign in the City of Brotherly Love.

This Collins Cover seems to flow very naturally, and it has a wonderful visual appeal. You can sense the lifetime transition of the young violinist in Budapest to the accomplished Master Conductor in Philadelphia An inspirational cachet honoring legendary musician - Eugene Ormandy. Item #X2704. $11.75.
