Classical Composers

 Charles Ives - Composer

Collins Cover Announcement

Famous Composers

Charles Oyes

Almost unbelievably, Charles Ives was a successful insurance executive who pursued his full-time career in that field. It was during his free time evenings and on weekends in his beloved Connecticut that he created his compositions almost as a hobby. It was not until he was past 50 that any of his works were performed in public. It took a decade more for his compositions to be widely recognized for their greatness.

His interest in music first started as he studied with his father, George. In 1947 he won the Pulitzer Prize in Music for a piece composed forty-three years previously. In addition to symphonies, he also wrote chamber music and choral works.

My hand-painted cachet features a portrait of this gifted composer against a backdrop of a New England village. It is most attractive, and the individual hand painting brings it to life. Charles Ives. Item #Y2703. $11.75.
