Migratory Birds

Barrow;s Goldeneye

Winter 2025 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 26 Z2801 — Federal Migratory Bird "Duck Stamp" — Barrow's Goldeneye — 7-1-98

This is a colorful and lovely cover with a wonderful cancel from Duck Stamp Station, Washington, D.C. The cancel has a duck in flight, and the view of the duck is from the side, highlighting its head and back. The Barrow's Goldeneye is a striking, medium-sized diving duck of coastal harbors, mountain lakes, and large rivers. The male has a white crescent before its eyes and is black on its back. These ducks nest in wooded areas near lakes or ponds.

In addition to the $15.00 Migratory Bird stamp, a lovely prairie crab apple stamp from the flowering trees series is used to meet the postage requirement. The Barrow's Goldeneye duck is in front of that same lovely flowering tree branch.
