The black and white illustration below cannot convey the beauty and appeal of this hand painted cachet. Three little kittens are in a playful mood, and I must honestly tell you that the watercolors bring this scene to life. In the background, one kitten is about to unravel a ball of yarn. In the middle, a common pose is struck, and you can almost hear the purring as this little cat looks at you. And, in the foreground, the third one has gotten himself into one of those little predicaments in which kittens often find themselves - in this case, clinging to the handle of a sewing basket.

This cover completes my Popular Pets series of five. I feel that I have accomplished my goal of providing a counter-balance to the stark, bold, and surreal artwork technique on the Bright Eyes stamps. I chose, instead, to concentrate on the natural cuteness and loving appeal that our pets provide to us and took the path of realism. For this extremely popular topic, I believe it was the right approach. I'm very pleased to present my playful kittens cachet to conclude this set. Item #K2903 - $12.25.

At Americover in Indianapolis and the APS Show in Cleveland, collectors instantly fell in love with this cute cachet. In both cases, I quickly sold the ones I had brought, and a few months later my entire stock of them was gone. Cats are a very popular topic for collecting, and I have a hunch this one is going to climb quickly in value if it can be found. As the illustration shows, the hand painting has resulted in truly realistic and natural poses. A very hard Collins to find.
