While growing up, we always had a parakeet at home. They were of the blue or green variety, and we loved the splash of color and chatter that they brought to the house. Mom always kept the large, spacious cage very clean. Although Linda and I have opted for the more traditional dogs and cats as pets most of the time, I do remember those childhood parakeets fondly. To this day Mom has one that she dearly loves.
