Klondike Gold Rush - Centennial

Husky and Pup Cachet

Subscriber-Only Edition

Spring 2024 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 25 L2902 — Klondike Gold Rush — Husky and Pup (Subscriber-only limited edition) — 8-21-98

The Klondike Gold Rush was a migration of about 100,000 prospectors to the Klondike region of the Yukon in Northwestern Canada between 1896 and 1899. Skookum Jim and his family found gold near the Klondike River, and their discovery sparked one of the most frantic gold rushes in history. The Klondike was immediately flooded by nearby miners who arrived to stake claims. Sometime later, news reached the outside world, and a wave of gold seekers bought supplies and headed north thinking they would strike it rich. In addition to the regular cover I produced for the stamp issue, I made a limited edition only for my subscribers. This cover features a beautiful Siberian Husky and her young pup. A dog sled, loaded with supplies and provisions sits to the left ready for the trail. In the background, two tents protect the prospectors from the cold Arctic nights in northern Alaska. This Collins cover recalls the days of the Klondike Gold Rush and features the dog that was so vital to travel in the frozen North—the Siberian Husky. First time in one of my sales.
