Lot 27 M2903 — Chief Joseph (Four Centuries of American Art stamps) — 8-27-98

Chief Joseph was a brave and peace-loving Native American who captured the attention and admiration of the nation during the 1800s. I chose his portrait as an excellent illustration for that century of our artistic development and expression. Identifying text is discretely printed on the reverse, so as to not distract from the visual impact. This hand painted first day cover with the four Western Art stamps, flanking the imposing watercolor of the great leader, is one of the finest you'll ever see. A "must-have' for all Native American collections.
