Lot28 N2810 — Scouting — Celebrate the Century — 2/3/98
Two Boy Scouts have found their way through a forest to visit a Girl Scout camp. The new stamp depicts scouting near the turn of the 20th Century, and the realistic Norman Rockwell style hand painted cachet certainly chronicles that period in the Scouting movement. Both girls and boys have the old-fashioned round, wide-brimmed hats. Knee-length socks and high-top shoes worn by the boys are indicators of the period. The girls wear long-length skirts and also have high-top shoes. Both groups sport the colorful neckerchiefs still in favor today. Many collectors have an interest in the topic of scouting, and, if you obtain this lot it will be an important asset to any Collins or topical collection. In my opinion, it's one of the finest Scouting cachets ever made and a lovely portrayal of Americana.
