Collins Cover Announcement
An Invitation to Share the Dream
Dawn of an American Century
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Founded
The First World Series
A cachetmaker's dream is about to unfold before your eyes as Collins Cachets begin to bring the "Celebrate the Century" series of new stamps to life. It is a career opportunity of a lifetime for me because I love Americana, history, and, most of all, the United States. This wonderful, fulfilling series of special events, famous people, important places, and cultural happenings all blend together to present a historical 100-year chain in philatelic terms of the current century showing who we were and who we are. In a few minutes I'll highlight some of the subjects already announced in this set, and, if you're like me, the juices will start to flow with anticipation. But, before I get ahead of myself, let me tell you about the two Collins cachets I have chosen to introduce you to this First Day Cover happening.
Baseball and scouting are two of the all-time favorite topics of First Day Cover collectors. To get this "Celebrate the Century" Collins set off to a rousing start, today I am offering you two absolutely magnificent cachets honoring the first-ever World Series and the founding in the U.S. of our Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Make no mistake; these covers will sell out quickly, and, when they do, their value on the open market will soar. The cachet designs are superb, the individual hand painting is of "old-time artistic craftsmanship" quality, and when I put my Collins logo on them, it was with the satisfaction of knowing that they would be the finest created by any cachetmaker. For each and every stamp in this set, my goal will be to make my Collins cachet "The Best of Issue" of any produced.
My "First World Series" cachet will feature two of the legendary stars of the game. Cy Young was the dominant pitcher for the 1903 Boston club and Honus Wagner was the all-around star player on their series opponent--Pittsburgh. In addition to bringing these two turn-of-the-century legends to life on my watercolored cachet, I also use early 1900's baseball equipment and memorabilia to enhance the timeline. This "Young/ Wagner 1903 First World Series" Collins is destined to become one of the most recognized and sought-after baseball cachets in the history of the hobby, and your opportunity to secure one or more of them is now.
Scouting is another winner in collecting circles. I think it is because many Americans have personally gone through this wholesome transitionary experience where our childhood progresses toward young adulthood. Whether or not we were Scouts, there seems to be a strong bond to the concept of building personal character as well as an attachment to the natural land and environment. My hand-painted cachet for this new stamp is one I do not want you to miss. It has achieved, in visu21 impact, the essence of scouting at the dawn of our century. A group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in period uniforms (they really look great!) sit and stand around a campfire in a woodland setting. The finished artwork reminds me of the Norman Rockwell style. I've developed a good sense of the cachets being currently produced for the hobby, and I can tell you that when you hold in your hand and see for yourself this Collins Scouting First Day Cover, you will find none better. Don't delay because it will not be in my stock very long before selling out. Americana at its finest.
My "First World Series" and "Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts" cachets are just the beginning of our First Day journey together through this, our century. Here is a brief glimpse of some of the other recently released or announced subjects in this magnificent set. *
First Manned flight at Kitty Hawk by Wright Brothers * All American Jim Thorpe * The very first teddy bear * The opening of the Panama Canal * Henry Ford's "Tin Lizzie" - the Model T * Our entry into World War I * The St. Louis World Fair * Our Rough Rider President - Teddy Roosevelt * Prize Fighter Jack Dempsey * The creation of Grand Canyon National Park * The Gibson Girl--America's Concept of the perfect woman at the turn of the century * Ellis Island--where many began the American dream * The Silent Screen's Charlie Chaplin * Acclaimed botanist George Washington Carver * The Golden Age of Radio * New York Yankee Babe Ruth * The Age of Jaz7 * The Lone Eagle--Charles Lindbergh * Flappers doing the Charleston in the Roaring 20's * The Four Horsemen of Notre Dame Football Fame • and many, many others.
This promises to be an unequaled hobby experience, and I look forward to sharing my covers with you in the months ahead. Most hand-painted cachetmakers wouldn't dream of attempting this set, but I look upon it as a dream come true. I invite you to ride along with Collins Cachets as they fly from Kitty Hawk to the moon, Mars, and beyond. I invite you to ride along with me as I commit to make each and every cachet in this series the best to be produced. I invite you to begin this cover collector's "dream come true" in Henry Ford's Tin Lizzie at the dawn of the 1900's and end it in NASA's Space Shuttle at the dawn of the new millennium. It all starts with "The First World Series" and "Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts." Forming a Collins collection of this scope will offer many hours of fun and satisfaction as well as investment potential in terms of both individual subjects/ cachets and the set as a whole. There will be nothing like it in the hobby as Collins Cachets Celebrate the Century!
