Flowering Trees

Pacific Dogwood

Collins Cover Announcement

Flowering Trees

Prairie Crab Apple and Pacific Dogwood

This issue provided me with a fine opportunity to combine the beautiful blossoms of some of America's most spectacular flowering trees with colorful songbirds The resulting cachets exceeded my expectations, and I guarantee that collectors will absolutely love this five-cover mini-set. I'm announcing the first two today with the other three to follow shortly.

The gorgeous Prairie Crab Apple stamp (which I am using on my "Duck" cover this year) is one of the first two I'm announcing. Flanking the stamp and postmark are a rose-breasted brosbeak and an eastern bluebird. Both are songbirds of immense beauty and lovely coloration. They are perched on the branches of a crab apple tree displaying its vibrant pink blooms. A Collins so nice it almost defies description.

Also available now is the Pacific Dogwood issue. The large flowers and leaves provide a perfect setting for the dazzling goldfinch, which is distinguished by its contrasting feathers of midnight black and golden yellow. Also, it is a nature FDC that you will not want to miss.

Hand painting has brought each of these Flowering Trees cachets to life. Watercolors permit using just the right shades to bring out the full artistic potential of a scene. I must say that this topic of gorgeous blossoms and colorful songbirds is just perfect for a paintbrush.

Proudly I present the first two Flowering Trees Collins Covers. Each has a large and lovely stamp. Each features birds with colorful plumage. And each does true artistic justice to the blossoms of the Prairie Crab Apple (Item #P2804) and Pacific Dogwood (Item #P2805). $12.25 each.

Lot 24 P2801 and P2805 — Flowering Trees — (two FDCs) — 3-19-98

This issue gave me a fine opportunity to combine the beautiful blossoms of some of America's most spectacular flowering trees with colorful songbirds. The resulting cachets exceeded my expectations. The Pacific Dogwood tree (P2805) has large flowers and leaves that provide a perfect setting for the dazzling Goldfinch, which is distinguished by its contrasting feathers of midnight black and golden yellow. Perched on a branch of the Southern Magnolia tree (P2801) is a multi-hued Painted Bunting, whose habitat is the southern U.S. states, Mexico, and Central America. The magnolia tree produces creamy white flowers with a rich fragrance.
