Collins Cover Announcement
ALL ABOARD !
THE SUPER CHIEF
This is the fifth and final cover in my 20th Century passenger trains set of five. It always gratifies me when a new stamp, a First Day cancellation, and a cachet all work together to create a desirable cover. I think each of the covers in this railroad mini-set have achieved this standard.
The final one combines the three elements in fine fashion. The stamp pictures the sleek red and silver E-1 diesel locomotive that pulled the Super Chief, which traveled between Chicago and Los Angeles via Albuquerque. It was the preferred train of the Hollywood movie industry and came to be known as the "Train of the Stars." As with the four previously announced "ALL ABOARD" covers, this one has the fantastic locomotive pictorial First Day postmark. No other cachetmaker obtained this superb cancellation for those covers, and I would again like to thank Jim Nelson for his dedicated work on August 26th to make these special FDCs a reality.
The hand painted cachet salutes the signalmen whose jobs are to keep the trains moving safely and on time. In addition to the holding of the familiar lantern, other signals are also pictured in realistic color. All five of the cachets in this set proudly depict train crew members of American railroads. Train cachets and stamps are actively collected by many topicalists, and I urge you not to miss obtaining this complete set now at original offering prices. I am pleased to present the final cover in the "ALL ABOARD" series. The Super Chief. Item # I3105 - $12.25.
