Hanukkah 1999

The current first-class rate denomination of 33-cents was added to this new Hanukkah stamp. Otherwise, the design is the same as the stamp issued in 1996.

An extremely large and intricate menorah stands in Jerusalem, and that is what I chose to render as my hand painted cachet. Actually, a Hanukkah menorah has nine arms, but this one with seven was so detailed and impressive that I decided to use it on this cover. The brightly colored stamp makes a nice visual contrast to the somber and reflective tones of the massive one featured in the cachet.
