Ayn Rand - Writer and Philosopher

Collins Cover Announcement

AYN RAND

This was a very controversial stamp issue. Ayn Rand was born Alice Rosenbaum in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1905. She immigrated to the United States in 1926 and died in 1982.

She wrote several novels and had a philosophy of "objectivism." Much of what she wrote and said was controversial, but there is no doubt she either endeared those who read her or offended them. She was a complicated individual but blossomed in American literacy circles.

My hand painted cachet pictures her in one of the skyscrapers shown on the stamp. To a large degree, Rand's novels try to explain why capitalism works and socialism does not. I try to picture her as the self-confident and intellectually strong personality that she tried to project. An interesting First Day Cover. Ayn Rand - Item #Q3001. $12.25
