The new reindeer stamps received their First Day postmarks from Rudolph, Wisconsin. It thus became unthinkable that I would let this cachet opportunity slip by without honoring the beloved Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Often, the renditions of Rudolph have slipped into a cartoonish look, and I resolved not to have this cachet follow that precedent. Rather, my Rudolph is unmistakably "different" from the realistic portrayal of Santa's reindeer that is the norm. Yet, there is just enough of that natural appearance to suggest that this could be the upstart which led the team on that infamous foggy Christmas Eve.

My hand painted Rudolph is drawn to convey a lovable, sappy look that is very appealing. Candy canes and a Christmas star ornament adorn his antlers. A seasonal pine bough crowns his head. A glint in his eye and just a hint of a smile along with his red-nosed namesake make this 1-DC one that will become a hobby favorite.
