Collins Cover Announcement 

Extreme Sports

Dare-devil acrobatics combine with speed and personal athletic skills to create a new category of Extreme Sports. The Postal Service issued a set of four stamps to highlight four popular versions of these exciting activities. Making their appearance on hand painted Collins cachets will be Skateboarding, BMX Biking, Snowboarding, and Inline Skating.

The First Day postmark for these covers is a Collins exclusive. It was only fitting that each of these extreme sports stamps should have an extreme cancel, and I can happily report - mission accomplished. These covers have, by far, the largest bullseye postmark of any I have ever obtained. It is an attention getter just as are the sports being portrayed. Both are extreme! My thanks to Jim Jones for getting these great cancels for me. I don't think they were carried to the post office on his rollerblades, but with Jim you can never be sure.

The visual layout of these covers is a little different than usual as I wanted both the hand painted cachet and the marvelous postmark each to make its own impact without competing with the other. Accordingly, half the cover is devoted to a cachet that captures the speed and daring of skateboarding. The other half is devoted to the bold impact of the silver dollar sized postmark. I'm pleased to present the first of four "extremely" dynamic covers. Skateboarding.
