Military Working Dogs

Belgian Malinois

Cover Announcement

This is the second cover in my Military Working Dogs set of four. A Belgian Malinois is featured on the large red stamp. The mini-set pays tribute to four breeds that are used by the United States military for guard duty, combat, and search & rescue.

The Belgian Malinois can detect explosives and accelerants as well as narcotics. It is valued by the military for its ability to track humans for apprehension. In 2011 a dog named "Cairo" was used in Operation Neptune Spear in which Osama Bin Laden was killed. Last year, another Belgian Malinois named "Conan" pursued a terrorist leader into a cave were he was trapped and terminated. The U.S. Secret Service uses this breed to guard the grounds of the White House. and in 2014 "Jordan" and "Hurricane" stopped an intruder who had jumped a fence.

The cachet is individually hand painted as is the text at the top of the envelope. The letters are red to coordinate with the new stamp. The service branch on this cover is the Marine Corps. Now ready is the second of my Military Working Dogs - the Belgian Malinois. Collins #A5902 at $16.50.
