TRANSPORTATION SERIES

1920'S SCHOOL BUS

Every First Day Cover collector will love this COLLINS, and I urge you not to miss it. The "entire" hand-painted cachet is a delight. A "1920's Huckleberry Finn" is stretched out on the lush green bank of a lazy river. Hands clasped behind his head (which rests on a tree stump) and straw hat pulled down over his eyes, the lad is enjoying the warm spring day. One of his bare feet rests against his fishing pole to signal should he get a bite. Up river, a stone bridge spans the blue water, and going across is an early school bus -- the one that our dozing truant should be on! The reflection of the bridge and bus on the surface of the river really "makes" this cachet. It is a beauty.

Joining the 3.4-cent School Bus stamp is the 30-cent American Schools stamp that was issued in 1979. Both are tied with an unofficial First Day cancel from Riverdale, Maryland. Again, striving for something different for my COLLINS collectors, I opted for NO TEXT ON THIS FDC. The cachet, stamps and cancel say it all, and, again, I ask that you add this delightful piece to your collection. Item #A1001. $7.75
