Abigail Adams

U.S. First Lady

Collins Cover Announcement

ABIGAIL ADAMS

This is a delightful and very eye-appealing cover, and words cannot describe its pleasing appearance. The color textures used for the hand-painted cachet complement very nicely those used in the stamps, and the result is a very warm visual effect. If you add this cover to your COLLINS collection, view it at least once under a soft light.

To the left is a parchment with the actual text that Abigail wrote to her husband, John Adams, on March 31, 1776. When you receive the cover, read the text (you may need a magnifying glass), and marvel that these words were written 210 years ago. Abigail certainly was a woman ahead of her time.

Two stamps are affixed to this cover. One has the official city cancel from Quincy, Mass. The other has an unofficial from White House, N.J. The duo-cancels on the side-by-side stamps fit nicely into the overall arrangement.

Above the two stamps, an additional cachet shows Abigail at her writing desk penning her letter to John. A fireplace behind her and a lighted candle on the mantle are small touches that add to the color coordination mentioned above. Searching for the right word to project this cover, I come up with "charm". It is a charming FDC. Item #C1001 - $7.50
