Great Americans

Chester W. Nimitz Chief of Naval Operations

Collins Cover Announcement

ADMIRAL CHESTER W. NlMITZ

Across the envelope, two warships brave the stormy and turbulent Pacific Ocean. The swirling sea-green waves are crested by foreboding white-tops. For those of you who like "special effects" on your hand-painted covers, you mult.see this stormy sea -- it is so life-like that I think you will be amazed that an FDC could capture this much realism.

Over-head, dense storm clouds spawn a driving, pelting rain and streaks of yellow lightning bolts. But, on the very distant horizon, just a "dash" of contrasting pink and orange brightness offers hope that the severe weather may be nearing its conclusion. To the lower left is a portrait of Nimitz in dress uniform, and to the right the fifty cent stamp has the First Day of Issue bullseye at Fredericksburg, Texas.

Prediction. If you purchase this COLLINS FDC it will rank as one of your personal cover favorites. Every once-IF—awhile the

chemistry happens, and this Chester Nimitz First Day cover with its full-face cachet is spectacular. Item #J901 - $7.50

Autumn 2019 Mail Sale Commentary

Lot 18 J901 — Admiral Chester W. Nimitz — 2/22/85

This cover honors one of our naval heroes of World War II. The cachet is a fine example of philatelic watercolor art. Swirling sea-green waves are crested by foreboding whitecaps. Lightning bolts streak down from the sky. Silhouetted ships prowl the surface. Note the realistic rolling wave lines in this "stormy sea" cachet. At lower left is an oval portrait of the Admiral. It's one of the best military first day covers I've produced and, I think, the finest rendition of an angry sea.
