Collins Cover Announcement
WORLD WAR I VETERANS
This is one that I am personally very pleased with, and I recommend it for your collection. The action is fast paced in a cloud-filled sky -- vintage World War I fighter planes are engaged in a dog fight. One is coming right at you with smoke and flames spewing out behind. Adding a super sense of depth perception is a break in the clouds which shows the cultivated farm fields below bordered by the green hedge rows so familiar in the European countryside. This is a COLLINS cachet that you will instantly like a lot -- and then it begins to grow on you the more you look at it. In fact, it's still growing on me.
Maureen picked up the stamps in Milwaukee and flew them back to me. Then it was up to Flanders for what I consider an outstanding unofficial First Day cancel for World War I veterans. As a schoolboy, I learned the famous poem and the lines still are embedded.....
In Flander's Field the poppies grow,
Among the crosses, row on row.
This is a really nice COLLINS cover. Item #K1001. $7.50

Lot 19 K1001 — World War I Veterans
This 1985 "entire" Collins shows an aerial dogfight between vintage military aircraft in the skies over France. The stamp was issued in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where we purchased them and then returned to New Jersey. A drive to Flanders resulted in a Collins exclusive first day of issue postmark where the name was the same as the famous cemetery in France where so many American veterans of World War I rest for eternity. A very clean-looking military cover produced over 35 years ago. A good opportunity for Collins and military topicalists.
