WINTER SPECIAL OLYMPICS

This Olympic FDC is very vividly hand painted in bright colors which provide a nice contrast to the wintery background.

In the foreground, a skier makes her way downhill while in the distance two speed skaters race each other and the clock. In a large inset, a participant admires her newly presented medal. All in all, a very attractive "entire" cachet.

It was to the state of Utah that I traveled for this issue. Up into the mountains, it was on to Park City where I purchased the stamps. Then, it was back down the long descent to Salt Lake City where I obtained a very nice unofficial First Day cancel. Many of the events were held at the Ice Palace and within Salt Lake's city limits, so it is a very nice "real" FDC.
