STANLEY STEAMER

12-cent Transportation Series

This "entire" or full cover cachet will be a special addition to your cover collection. Grassy fields of brilliant emerald green border both sides of the bumpy, unpaved rural road. This sea of green is contrasted by blue skies and a white wooden fence. Along the road rolls a 1909 classic motor car -- the Stanley Steamer.

The driver is intent on his wheeled adventure -- dressed for the period in his peaked cap and goggles while keeping warm on the early spring day with a bright red lap robe. Somewhat mystified by this new-fangled, noisy contraption, a bounding dog escorts the steamer along its territory.

A pair of the stamps has the official First Day bullseye cancel from Kingfield, Maine. The stamps are printed in a grayish-blue, and that is the color combination (blue and gray) that I used on my hand-painted version in the cachet.

A colorful philatelic look back at a by-gone era. Item #R901. $7.00

Lot 12 R901 — Stanley Steamer — (4-2-85)

This 1985 Collins is an "entire" with the cachet stretching from one side of the envelope to the other. The classic antique automobile chuggs down a dirt country lane with lush green meadows on each side. A red lap robe offers some protection to the fully exposed driver. A sleek dog romps after the horse-less carriage as it rolls along. A pair of the stamps have the first day of issue postmark. Almost 35 years old.
