Collins Cover Announcement

SEASHELLS

The first thing that impressed me about this issue was the delicate beauty of the stamps. Their design and coloring are quite lovely, and the five different ones on this cover make it very attractive. Boston was the city of issue, and early in the morning I was coming in to Logan Airport. After much consideration on the cover lay-out possibilities, I decided on a strip of two on the right, a strip of three to the left and a large seashore cachet in the center.

The vertical strip of two on the right is tied to the FDC by the

official Boston bullseye cancel. Then, it was a quick flight south

and a drive to the famous Jersey shore for a great unofficial. It

was here that the remaining strip of three was canceled at "Seaside Park" which I think is super for a shell cover.

In the center is an attractive seashore hand-painted cachet. A

large "New England Neptune" shell is in the foreground having been washed up on the white sand. Shore birds scurry in the gentle surf and a gull flies overhead. In the distance, a lighthouse juts upward from behind the dunes and a couple of fishermen are silhouetted against the bright dawn sky. On the beach is a stray lobster trap left half buried by the last high tide.

The seashells were a very popular nature issue, and I know you'll

like this COLLINS cover. It has all five of the different shell

stamps (many of the FDCs produced by other cachetmakers don't), it has both the official city cancel and an excellent unofficial cancel, and it has a lovely hand-painted cachet.

This COLLINS may not be as exciting as a Spanish doubloon, but if you found it while beach combing, you'd love adding it to your treasures. Item #S901 - $8.50

The seashells were a very popular nature issue having all five of the different shell stamps on one cover. It also has both the official city cancel and an excellent unofficial cancel as well as a lovely hand painted cachet in the center. A vertical strip of two shell stamps on the right is tied to the cover by the official Boston bullseye cancel. Then after a quick flight south and a drive to the famous Jersey shore, the remaining strip of three was canceled at "Seaside Park" which I think is super for a shell 'cover. This cover is almost forty years old with five nature, ocean-themed stamps.
