BANANA SLUG.

A slug is a snail-like creature (terrestrial gastropod), but unlike the snail, it has no shell. It feeds on various plant life and therefore several types of slugs find the Pacific Coast Rain Forest a perfect habitat in which to thrive. The one featured on this stamp is the large banana slug. My hand painted cachet features a full body length view of this unusual wildlife critter as it slithers down a trunk of a tree. The jigsaw effect of peeling bark presents an interesting background against which the crawling slug is framed. Also shown in the scene is a nearby rough-skinned newt as it rests on a bed of moss with eyes riveted on the slug's descent. The cascading flow of a diminutive waterfall adds a touch of animation to this unusual view of nature.
